A bride and groom share a loving moment with their Dog of Honor, Murphy at Park Presidio, SF

FAQs

  • Three good reasons to hire professional pet care for your wedding:

Guest Experience: Let your friends and family be fully present with you to celebrate your special day. They want to have fun and reconnect with other guests. Taking care of a dog takes away from that experience, not to mention the unpleasant business of cleaning up after your pup.

Safety and Comfort: Your dog’s experience is our highest priority, from ensuring they always have fresh water to stay hydrated, to making sure they are not walking on hot pavement during those scorcher summer months. We are also your dog’s designated driver after your cocktail hour. Throughout your wedding, we are always mindful of any signs of stress or anxiety your dog may exhibit, and will take a time out as needed. Because we are not guests, but trained handlers specifically there for your dog, we don’t have FOMO for missing out on your wedding festivities.

Content: We work closely with your hired media team (photographers, videographers, and content creators) to help them pose your pup and direct them to the camera so that you have those frame-worthy, gorgeous photos to enjoy for years to come. We are also your dog’s personal pup-parazzi, taking soooooo many photos and videos of your Dog of Honor so that you can relive the day through your dog’s POV.

  • A typical Dog of Honor day is choreographed around your dog's comfort and your wedding timeline, with about five hours of dedicated care.

Pre-ceremony: We pick up your dog, help them into their wedding attire, and arrive at the venue early to participate in pre-ceremony photos, rehearse walking up the ceremony aisle, and settle in before guests appear.

Ceremony:‍ ‍Your dog can play any role you'd like, ring bearer, flower dog, processional escort, or simply a calm presence at the altar. Some pups stay for the entire ceremony, and some make their entrance, then we escort them away to a quiet space. We'll talk through the options on our consult call and pick the choreography that fits your dog and your ceremony style.

Cocktail hour:‍ ‍Social pups join cocktail hour to mingle with your guests, pose for portraits, and soak up the celebrity treatment. Quieter pups slip out with us right after the ceremony, so they can decompress somewhere calm while you celebrate with your guests.

Departure: Whether your dog leaves after the ceremony or after cocktail hour, we chauffeur them home, to your hotel, or to their overnight boarding, so you and your guests can stay fully present for dinner and dancing.

  • If you are getting married between May and October, especially on a Saturday, we are booking up 1 year in advance. For off-season requests, we recommend booking at least six months ahead to ensure availability.

  • Our team of wedding dog chaperones, AKA “The Pack,” has extensive experience chaperoning dogs all over Northern California. To date, we have chaperoned at over 100 wedding venues. We are happy to recommend the right venue for you, based on your desired location, taking into consideration weather, access to shade, indoor facilities, and other dog-friendly policies. Feel free to schedule a consultation call to learn more, even if you don’t have a confirmed date or venue yet.

  • Our team of wedding dog chaperones specialize in servicing Northern California, from Carmel and Santa Cruz, to the San Francisco Bay Area, Marin, Napa, Sacramento, Chico, and Lake Tahoe. We are also open to traveling to your destination wedding or referring you to other wedding dog attendants outside of California. Feel free to DM us at @dogofhonor_events if you need a referral.

  • We would LOVE the opportunity to chaperone any four-legged pet. If you have a cat, rabbit, goat, lizard, turtle, etc, that is a must-attend, let’s chat! We even have a team member who has a soft spot for the cold-blooded reptiles!

  • Absolutely! One of our favorite activities is to plan fun field trips for your pup while you are off celebrating with family. Because we love spoiling dogs like they are our own, that typically means a trip to a local dog boutique like Diggidy Dog in Carmel, Woof Sonoma, or Fideaux in Napa & Sonoma Valley, followed by a romp on the beach or a hike, ending with a table for two where your pup orders from the dog menu. We make no apologies for introducing your dog to the bougie life.

  • We have a limited supply of faux floral collars, bandanas, and color-coordinated leashes. Most of our clients enjoy hand-selecting the perfect wedding attire for their four-legged flower girl or ring bearer. Part of our wedding dog concierge service is assisting dog moms and dog dads in finding just the right fit. Think of us as your dog’s personal wedding stylist.

BTW, we LOVE the high-quality leashes and harnesses from Sunny Tails, a woman and AAPI-owned small business in Southern California. Our Chief Wag Officer, Abigayle, owns every leash color they offer. (Obsessed? Yes, but she’s OK with it). We highly recommend pairing them with your dog’s wedding attire. Our discount code is DOGOFHONOR10.

We are also ready to start offering some entertaining add-ons to enhance your guest experience while celebrating your fellow furry wedding co-star.

Our first add-on is the Signature Lawn Game Experience featuring a customized 4-in-a-row lawn game.

Stay tuned for more add-ons, or schedule a call today to learn more!

  • There is no extra fee for any Instagram or TikTok reels we may create of your Dog of Honor, nor do we charge for the shared album of all the photos and videos we capture during the day or weekend. We create fun social media content because we love showcasing the love couples have for their four-legged BFF’s on their wedding day. Our first priority, however, will always be supporting your hired media team, the true professionals, to produce the best wedding content, rather than our own.

  • We are happy to include your venue as an additionally insured party on our insurance policy.

  • Our spokesdog Chloe LOVES to help us showcase dog-friendly wedding venues. Chloe’s momager (that’s me, Abigayle) can be reached at info@dogofhonorevents.com or better yet, send us the details via our collab form

  • We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but despite many articles stating that California allows dogs to be a witness to your wedding, adding a paw print to your license can put your license at risk. The good news is that it may be possible to provide a commemorative wedding certificate with your dog’s paw print. Unlike marriage licenses that are turned in to the county clerk, you get to keep your commemorative certificate.

  • We LOVE collaborating with wedding planners, coordinators, and photographers throughout Northern California. The preferred way to reach out to us is via our collab form. You can also email us at info@dogofhonorevents.com.

  • 100% YES. Consider us your canine talent scout! We know a lot of fabulously cute dogs, some of which are even Instagram famous, who would love to participate in a styled shoot. Please share details via our wedding pro collaboration form

  • Yes. Alongside our wedding work, we're honored to be asked to include beloved dogs in funerals, memorials, and celebrations of life across Northern California. A dog who was part of someone's daily life often belongs at their send-off too, whether as a quiet companion during the service, a part of the processional, or simply a calming presence for the family during photos and the reception that follows.

The logistics look a lot like a wedding. Your chaperone arrives early, handles leashing and potty breaks, manages the dog during the service so you can be fully present, and takes care of transportation if the venue or cemetery doesn't allow pets for the full day. The tone, of course, is different. We keep a low profile, follow the family's lead, and make sure the dog is a source of comfort rather than a distraction.

If you'd like to include your dog (or the dog of the person being honored) in a celebration of life, reach out through our contact form with the date and venue, and we'll walk you through availability, pricing, and what to expect on the day.

  • We are almost always open to adding to our pack of wedding dog attendants, especially if you have professional dog-handling experience, you are great with people, have a clean driving record, and you have a good eye for Insta-worthy content. Please DM us at @dogofhonor_events.
